The Bachelor of Health Science Program has two majors – health science and communication sciences and disorders – that are ideal for students who want to work in health care. The program is designed to provide strong core skills in preparation for advanced education in a variety of health careers. All students learn about critical aspects of disease and disability, healthy functioning, contemporary public health challenges and opportunities, professional communication, the scientific bases of health care knowledge, and ethical and professional issues associated with our complex health care system. Students learn from accomplished faculty from across the disciplines in the College of PHHP and study side-by-side with other students who aspire to make a difference in people’s lives.
"No other program, in my imagination, could prepare a student more thoroughly for a career in medicine. The BHS program provided me with a sturdy foundation in the core medical curricula like anatomy, pathophysiology, and biomedical ethics alongside contextual medical knowledge in epidemiology, patient communication, evidence-based practice and problem solving. Building relationships with PHHP faculty and administration is also highly encouraged by the small class size. The PHHP classes, teachers, and health science curriculum provide a transition into professional programs that is as seamless as imaginable."
